Rory Osterloh
BCom MBA (UCT) CAIB (SA).

Rory is co-founder of Base Capital and Arrow Equity. Rory began a career in banking with the Standard Bank group in 1990. Before specialising in corporate finance, Rory gained experience in various fields of commercial and corporate banking including credit analysis, relationship management, small business development, project finance, investment and corporate banking. In 1995 Rory attended the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business and completed a full time MBA. Following a period with Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank in 1996, Rory joined Absa Corporate & Merchant Bank’s Corporate Finance division and has subsequently focused on Corporate Finance including mergers and acquisitions, disposals, financial structuring, business restructuring, capital raising, empowerment transactions, strategy for both governmental organisations and the private sector as well as the JSE Securities Exchange Listings requirements.    

Kevin Trinder-Smith
CA(SA) BBusSci BCompt (Hons).

Kevin is co-founder of Base Capital and Arrow Equity. Kevin is a qualified chartered accountant having studied a Bachelors of Business Science (Finance) at the University of Cape Town and a Bachelors of Accounting Science (Hons) at Unisa. Kevin articled with Deloitte & Touche in Johannesburg and passed his board exam in 1996. After articles Kevin travelled through Africa for six months before working in London for 18 months, gaining valuable life skills and experience in Investment Banking and Corporate Finance while working for Paribas and Close Brothers in London. In 1999 Kevin returned to South Africa to continue pursuing a career in Corporate Finance with Absa Corporate & Merchant Bank. The invaluable experience gained includes specialising in capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, empowerment advisory and structuring, restructurings, valuations, stock exchange listings and de-listings, and general advisory services both domestically and cross border.

Rita Sorour
BComp (Hons)

Base Capital Associate

Rita Sorour graduated from Rhodes University with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Higher Diploma in Accounting in 1991. After completing her articles at KPMG and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1993, she ventured to Nambia where she spent two years working for Rossing Uranium Limited, and Sonnex, a subsidiary of Barloworld. Upon returning to South Africa, she consulted to Eskom on numerous business and financial plans for their non-core businesses as well as assessing the financial viability of energy efficiency. Rita then accepted a position at Absa Capital in Corporate Finance where she was actively involved in business acquisitions, disposals, valuations and reorganisations of various corporate entities. Following a period of 7 years with Absa Capital, she joined Exchange Sponsors, focussing on providing corporate finance services to medium sized businesses. Here, she was instrumentally involved in the process of listing two companies on the Alternative Exchange of the JSE Limited (RBA Holdings and 1time Holdings Limited). She resigned from Exchange Sponsors in 2008 to raise her children. Rita then started an independent practice in 2009. She works with Base Capital in the Corporate Finance arena on certain projects. Her field of focus is conducting general financial overviews of business’s, reviewing historic financial information, detailing cash flow forecasts, valuations and providing strategic advice.
